Biography

Ana’s Journey

Every day, as my mom and I would drive past the Teatro Colón, I’d tell her that someday I would dance at that theatre.

1986-

Ana’s Childhood

Born in Buenos Aires, Argentina, Ana’s passion for dance ignited at the age of six when her mother enrolled her in ballet. By nine, she was already refining her technique with Katty Gallo and Raul Candal, former dancers at the Teatro Colón. At 10, Ana was admitted to the Instituto Superior de Arte del Teatro Colón, where she immersed herself in the French and Russian styles. Her dedication led her, at 13, to the School of American Ballet in New York. There, she honed her skills in the Balanchine style. Upon completing her training at 16, Anna joined the American Ballet Theatre Studio Company.

I’ve met many people who’ve helped me to make my dancing my own, so I’m not like anyone else.

2004-

Starting Off

Following her time with the ABT Studio Company, Ana’s journey continued in 2004 when she received an offer to join the esteemed New York City Ballet. At 18, in 2005, Ana partnered with Julio Bocca in his world tour in Uruguay, Paraguay, Venezuela and Spain. Their performances of Tchaikovsky Pas de Deux and Don Quixote Pas de Deux not only showcased her unique talent and captivating style but also paved the way for prominent roles within the New York City Ballet. By 2006, she had risen to the rank of soloist, then in 2012 she was appointed as a principal with the company. Ana happily notes that her early rigorous training was instrumental in shaping her into a bold dancer who thrived at the New York City Ballet for 13 years.

Normally, I would have relied on dance to get me through this difficult and emotional time, but I couldn’t even walk.

2015-

Facing Challenges

Despite her accomplished career with the New York City Ballet, Ana encountered profound personal challenges. The most significant of these began with the passing of her mother, who had been her unwavering supporter. Adding to this hardship, Ana soon suffered a severe foot injury that kept her offstage for 15 months. Her resilience saw her return to the stage, and fulfilling her lifelong dream of dancing at the Teatro Colón reminded her of her early aspirations. Seeking fresh artistic challenges, Ana embarked on a new chapter in 2017, joining the San Francisco Ballet as a principal dancer.
